Founded by ABD AL-AZIZ bin Abd al-Rahman AL SAUD (Ibn Saud), Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam and home to Mecca and Medina. Today, the leader of Saudi Arabia is ABDALLAH bin Abd al-Aziz, a descendent of Ibn Saud. After Iraq invaded Kuwait, Saudi Arabia permitted Western and Arab troops to deploy from Saudi Arabia with a mission to free Kuwait. In 2005, the country had nationwide elections for half the members of the municipal councils; King ABDALLAH selected the rest of the members. With 25% of the world oil reserves and a member of the WTO since 2005, Saudi Arabia encourages foreign investment.
